Ever wonder what it’s like to guide adventurers through the rugged cliffs, glowing canyons, and wild backcountry of Zion National Park? At East Zion Adventures, our guides aren’t just experts in the outdoors—they’re passionate storytellers, safety champions, and wilderness pros who live and breathe adventure. Their days begin long before the first guest arrives and stretch well past sunset, filled with purpose, grit, and a whole lot of awe.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain into a typical day in the life of an East Zion Adventures guide—the people who turn epic landscapes into once-in-a-lifetime memories.

5:30 AM: Sunrise and Saddle Time

The day starts early, especially for our horseback and canyoneering guides. As the sky begins to glow, guides are already feeding and grooming the horses, checking tack, and prepping gear for the day’s rides. For canyoneering and UTV tours, equipment checks happen before breakfast—ropes are tested, helmets inspected, UTVs fueled and cleaned.

At East Zion Adventures, safety is always first. Each guide runs through a checklist to ensure every guest is in good hands, whether they’re rappelling down a cliff or riding through desert trails.

7:30 AM: Gearing Up for the Day

As the sun crests over the red rock cliffs, guests begin to arrive. Guides greet each group with a warm welcome, going over safety briefings, fitting gear, and making sure everyone is comfortable and confident before the adventure begins. Whether it’s a slot canyon hike, horseback ride, or a Zion sunset Jeep tour, our guides set the tone with knowledge, confidence, and a dash of humor.

Every group is different, and part of the magic is reading the vibe—some guests are here for adrenaline, others for serenity and stories. Our guides tailor every experience to make it personal and unforgettable.

Midday: On the Trail, in the Canyon, or Under the Pines

By midday, our guides are deep into Zion’s backcountry. A canyoneering guide might be leading guests down a hidden slot canyon, offering tips on rappelling technique and sharing stories of ancient geology. A UTV guide may be navigating guests to high-elevation viewpoints with sweeping views of Zion National Park, pointing out wildlife and local landmarks.

Throughout the day, East Zion Adventures guides wear many hats—naturalist, historian, photographer, coach, and friend. They know where to find wildflowers in spring, where the deer hide in fall, and how to turn a moment into a memory with a simple story or perfect photo stop.

Evening: The Grand Finale

As the day winds down, many tours culminate in one of our most popular experiences—the Zion sunset Jeep tour. Guides position their groups at just the right vantage point to watch the sky explode in color over the cliffs. It’s the perfect way to reflect on the day’s adventure and soak in the magic of East Zion.

After the guests leave, the day isn’t quite done. Guides head back to the base to clean gear, feed horses, and prepare for tomorrow. It’s a long day, but ask any guide and they’ll tell you—it’s worth every second.

Why They Do It

Being a guide at East Zion Adventures isn’t just a job—it’s a calling. These men and women are passionate about the land, the people they meet, and the experiences they help create. They take pride in helping guests push their limits, connect with nature, and leave Zion with a deeper appreciation for the wild world around them.

So the next time you join us on an adventure, know that your guide has put their heart into making your day unforgettable. And when you see them smiling at sunrise, you’ll understand why—they’re exactly where they’re meant to be.
