We hear it all the time: “Zion is too crowded” “Isn’t one day enough?” “I’ve hiked Angels Landing, I’ve seen it all.” As locals who live and guide here every day, we’re here to change your perspective. Let’s debunk some of the most common Zion myths and show you what Zion is really all about.
Myth 1: If you’ve hiked Angels Landing, you’ve seen it all.
No way. Angels Landing might be Zion National Park’s most famous hike, but it’s just one part of a park that spans 229 square miles. Zion itself is full of contrasts—deep and narrow slot canyons, forested plateaus, panoramic overlooks, incredible hiking trails—and East Zion is where the crowds thin out and the real exploring begins.
Pro tip: Hike Crimson Canyon with East Zion Adventures and explore a red rock slot canyon where the walls stretch over 100-feet high on either side.
Myth 2: Zion is too crowded to enjoy.
That depends. If you choose to sleep in and only visit the main canyon, especially during peak tourist season, you’ll run into crowds. Here’s a little local insight: Start early. Stay late. Visit in the shoulder seasons—winter and fall in Zion are magical. Most of all, explore beyond the main canyon. Kolob and areas outside the park boundary like East Zion offer epic views, lesser known trails, and a whole lot more elbow room.
Pro tip: Our East Rim Jeep Tour gives you front-row views with zero shuttle lines.
Myth 3: Guided tours are overrated.
Nope. Not when they’re done right. A good local guide doesn’t just show you the way—they give you access to places, stories, and experiences you’d never find on your own. Want to rappel into a private slot canyon? Learn about local history and geology? Find the trail to a hidden waterfall? That’s what we’re here for. Guided tours at East Zion Adventures aren’t about checking a box—they’re about opening up a whole new side of Zion.
Myth 4: One day is enough to see Zion.
Untrue. Zion is bigger than most people realize and it deserves more than just one day. It’s a shame when people drive through the park without getting out of their cars. Some of the best experiences here take time, from hiking The Narrows or Angels Landing to soaking up sunset views on a private overlook.
Pro tip: Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort is the perfect base camp for all of your Zion adventures.
Myth 5: The desert is boring and lifeless.
Wrong! Zion is alive with color, movement, and contrast—from blooming cactus and cottonwood trees lining the Virgin River to bald eagles flying overhead and bighorn sheep scaling the cliffs. The landscape tells a story and there’s so much waiting to be discovered.
Myth 6: You need to be hardcore to explore Zion.
Not even a little. There are plenty of beginner-friendly trails and guided experiences for first-timers, families, and anyone who just wants to try something new. At East Zion Adventures, we specialize in making adventure accessible—whether that’s canyoneering for the first time, riding horseback, or hopping in a UTV and exploring the backcountry with a guide who knows every bend in the road.
Zion isn’t just meant to be seen—it’s meant to be experienced. And at East Zion Adventures, we’re here to debunk Zion myths and help you do just that. Book a guided adventure.
