White Mountain Horseback Ride

Why choose between horseback riding and slot canyons? The White Mountain Horseback Ride combines both. After a quick riding lesson, you'll follow a local wrangler to the mouth of a narrow sandstone slot canyon, step down from the saddle, and walk between walls that tower several hundred feet overhead. It's one hour, beginner-friendly, and full of Old West character.

The Ride

Your ride begins at the stables with a short riding lesson for anyone new to the saddle. Our horses are well trained and matched to each guest, so first-timers feel at ease from the start. From there, you'll ride to the mouth of a slot canyon. Everyone dismounts and walks a short distance inside, where the sandstone narrows and the walls rise several hundred feet on either side. It's a perfect stop for photos. Back in the saddle, you'll ride to the starting point. Along the way, your guide shares the cowboy history of Orderville, a small town where ranching traditions are still part of daily life.

Is This Tour Right for You?

This ride is ideal for first-time riders, families with kids 8 and up, and anyone who wants a slot canyon without a long hike or technical canyoneering. Experienced riders looking for more time in the saddle may prefer the Red Hollow Premier Trail Ride or the Thunder Mountain Half-Day Ride.

Know Before You Go

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time to check in, because tours leave on time and the short riding lesson happens at the very beginning; your confirmation email will have the exact meeting location. All riders must be at least 8 years old and weigh less than 220 lbs, but no experience is needed, since the well-trained horses keep an easy walking pace. About halfway through, you’ll dismount and walk a short distance into a slot canyon on sand and uneven ground. Rides may not run in severe weather, and if yours is affected, we’ll contact you ahead of time to reschedule or give you a full refund. This ride takes place outside Zion National Park, so no park pass is needed.

Your Guides

Every East Zion Adventures guide is CPR trained and certified through our company training program. Beyond safety, our guides bring real local knowledge to every ride, from the plant and animal life you'll pass to the history of the Native peoples and early settlers who lived in this terrain.
